Autumn Term 2018
My name is Mrs Hall and I am the Year One classteacher. I would like to welcome both children and parents to Year One. We have a great team of staff to support your children this year with Mrs Durkan, Ms Parry and Miss Colleran . Here, I will try to give you some information about our class routines and about some of the exciting things to come!
Children come straight into school from 9.45 and begin a basic skills activity in class before the start of the day. If parents have any messages just mention them to to the staff on the playground doors and they will relay them back to class. Good attendance and punctuality is vitally important for your child's progress. Please make us aware of any medical issues and provide up to date inhalers as soon as possible. Medical forms must be filled in at the school office. PE is on Thursday afernoon and all children require a PE kit as soon as possible. All children should have a book bag and read at home every night. Book bags can be brought in each day to change books. Reading with your child will ensure they improve their skills and confidence. If you attended the parents meeting on Friday 14th September you will have received a newsletter with lots more information, but don't worry if you were unable to make it as you will receive a copy shortly.
In Year One this term we will be learning about Ourselves in a Science based topic and learning about the importance of healthy eating and exercise. As well as working hard in Phonics through our Read,Write Inc scheme, we will be reading stories, doing lots of writing, learning our numbers and having lots of fun too!
If there is anything else that you would like to know about the class routines don't hesitate to ask any of the Year 1 team.
I will try to put some photos, children's work and information on our class activities on this page throughout the year.
Many thanks for your support.
Have you seen the Kids' Zone? Play games, and visit some cool websites.

SUMMER TERM 2019
Welcome back to the summer term!
Many thanks for the fantastic space models children made at home which really enhanced our topic of Space last term. The children know lots of facts about the planets, the Moon, the Sun, our planet Earth and Neil Armstrong, so please ask them questions so they can proudly share their knowledge with you!
We have lots more exciting plans for this term which you can see on our summer topic map below. We had a brilliant day last term at Imagine That! where the children had great fun and enjoyed lots of Science based activities during National Science Week. I am hoping to organse another trip for this term and I will let you know the details as soon as possible.
An important assessment which I must mention is the Phonics Screening Assessment which will take place in the week beginning 10th June -14th June. This is a national assessment for every child in Year One which assesses their Phonic knowledge. We have been working very hard on our Phonics all year and I have sent home some phonic mats for children to practise , when they read at home, so please support them with this. I will be sending home a letter with more details about the Phonics Screening in the coming weeks. If you have any questions please just pop in and ask myself or Mrs Durkan.
Year One will have gymnastics sessions with a trained gymnastics coach this term and they will continue to enjoy Spanish with Mrs Wilson.
Please continue to read with your child every night and help them to learn their spellings for a test on Friday, as this really does help their progress.
