At Holy Spirit we are a very inclusive school. We adapt our teaching as much as possible to the individuals we teach to remove any barriers that our learners may face. By doing this we ensure that we are giving quality first teaching. However, for some children this is not enough.

A child or young person has a special educational need (SEN) if they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

  • Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age or;
  • Have a disability, which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools, or post 16 institutions.

A child under compulsory school age has a special educational need if they fall within either definition above or would do so if educational provision was not made for them.
