A very warm welcome to the Reception class of 2019/20! This year we will do everything we can to ensure your child makes a happy and settled start to school life.
Snack money is £1 per week
PE kits should be kept in school - available to buy from PrimaDonna in Marion Square.
Spellings are given out on Monday and should be practised everyday.
Please read daily with your child and comment in their reading record. Making time for reading 10 minutes a day will have a huge impact on your child's progress.
Further literacy/topic/maths homework will be given out as required by the teacher.
Reading is a huge priority in our school. We study a new book in depth each week and base our curriculum around books and language. Reading regularly to your child will develop their breadth of language and improve literacy skills as well as fostering a lifelong love of books. Children who are read with and read to regularly at a young age are proven to be more successful throughout school and in their adult lives.
We encourage you to share bedtime stories with your child, hear them read, role-play known stories and share nursery rhymes. All of these strategies will support your child's language and literacy development and give them the best possible start.
We follow the Read, Write Inc Phonics program.
