Get Away and Get Safe Gangs Prevention training

Dear parents and carers of year 6 pupils

Get away - Get Safe - Gang Prevention training for year 6

As part of our commitment to keeping children safe, next week year 6 will be working with an agency called 'Get Away and Get Safe!' The focus is educating young people about the dangers of getting involved in gangs as they get older. The workshops are tailored for year 6 pupils and have received very positive reviews in many schools including local ones such as St Oswalds, Springwell Park and Star of the Sea.

I felt it right to keep you fully informed about this and hope you agree that this provides valuable education to our young people about a serious social threat which can become a danger once children get close to Secondary school age.

Please take a look at their website for further information:

Here's an example of a school's review of the training:

'After the first session I became so aware of how necessary this work is whilst the children are still young and impressionable. I’ve realised how important it is that we bring this information to the children at this point in their lives so that they have the truth about the danger of getting involved in gangs and how, armed with the facts, they can make the right choices at the right time in their lives. As they move on to high school in the next year I know that they will enter that phase of their life fully understanding the consequences of making the wrong choices and listening to the wrong influences.'

I hope you agree that the sessions will be very educational and supportive however please contact me or Mrs Chellew should you have any queries or concerns on the matter.

Yours sincerely

Mr M. Byrne

Headteacher
