Celebrating our 7 decades and 60 years anniversary
Our school opened its gates in the 1955/56 school year – exactly 60 years ago. Each class have studied a different decade going back to the 1950’s and we had a special day today in our ‘7 decades’ assembly’. There was music, historical research, dance and comedy. Nursery and reception told us about the Queen’s coronation and had Bill Haley’s ‘Rock Around the Clock’ – year 6 moved into the 60’s with the Apollo moon landing and The Beatles ‘Help!’ As we passed into the 70’s we had the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and superb dance entertainment with ‘Year 5’s Jackson 5’, Abba and YMCA! Whitney Houston reminded us of the 80’s whilst year 4 revisited Charles and Diana’s wedding and the days when Liverpool and Everton dominated British and European football (Man City and Chelsea would be relegated in 1987 and 1988 respectively) they were the days... The 90’s brought a mini version of the Spice Girls from year 2 and year 1’s Robbie Williams’ Millennium saw in the new century. Year 3 closed proceedings recalling the 2012 London Olympics and making the neat link between the Queen’s 90th birthday and Holy Spirit’s 60th anniversary. Many thanks to all our parents for their coming along and supporting us and for trying really hard to make the children look the part in their costumes.
